Patient discussions
Patients are educated about the differences between allergic rhinitis and NAR, and which medications will work for each. They are told this is a chronic disease that is medically managed and requires some degree of medication on a year-round basis. They are told what to expect regarding prognosis. They are also told that it is important to monitor this condition frequently so appropriate medication adjustments can be made. Environmental control to reduce exposure to odorants/irritants (i.e., indoor tobacco smoke, volatile organic compounds) is emphasized to each patient.
