Patient discussions

Patients are educated about the differences between allergic rhinitis and NAR, and which medicines will work for each. They are told that this is a chronic disease that is medically managed and requires some degree of medicines on a year-round basis. They are told what to expect regarding prognosis. They are also told that it is important to monitor this condition frequently so appropriate medicines adjustments can be made. Environmental control to reduce exposure to odourants/irritants (i.e., indoor tobacco smoke, volatile organic compounds) is emphasised.
