Monitoring

Eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoO) is a chronic condition. Monitoring can vary depending on the treatment and the individual features of the patient. Assessment of symptomatic, endoscopic, and histological outcomes is recommended to evaluate response to treatment.[3][82] Repeat oesophagogastroduodenoscopy (OGD) to assess endoscopic and histological disease activity is recommended after initiating or changing treatment, or with a change or worsening in clinical status.[3][27]

Symptoms only modestly correlate with other measures of disease activity.[178] When EoO is in remission and well controlled, regular clinic visits (i.e., every 3-6 months in children, particularly to monitor growth and nutrition, and every 6-12 months in adults) are required. There are no formal recommendations on routine endoscopic surveillance, and this practice varies depending on the centre.
