Patient discussions

Patients who develop recurring overuse syndromes should be counselled on pre-exercise stretching and proper warm-up. In addition, appropriate strengthening of core muscle groups (e.g., abdominals, pelvic floor, and low back) and maintaining fitness of agonist-antagonist muscle groups should be stressed (e.g., hip adductors and abductors, hip adductors and abdominals). Appropriate rest and rehabilitation of these injuries as a first-line intervention following their acute presentation is important in order to avoid possible recurrence.
