Post-exposure immunoglobulin prophylaxis
Immunoglobulin prophylaxis of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) has been suggested in individuals (such as small children) who may have been extensively bitten.[8] This is because 0.2% to 4% of ticks in an endemic area may be affected by the TBE virus. Prompt administration of high-titred specific antibody preparations may be considered; however, no controlled data are available to prove the efficacy of this recommendation, and some studies indicate post-exposure prophylaxis may cause a more severe course of TBE and so do not recommend its use.[2]
