Secondary prevention

Antenatal counselling is important. Family members of affected patients should be screened for disease or carrier status. This is completed by laboratory assays and/or genetic testing. In-utero testing is possible with counselling regarding pre-implantation genetics. For affected patients, prevention of infectious complications includes antibiotic prophylaxis with or without administration of interferon gamma. BCG vaccination should be avoided.[97]
