Epidemiology

In the US, Europe, and Japan, estimated incidence of Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is between 1 in 200,000 and 1 in 250,000 of live births.[3][4][13][14] A registry in the UK gave a prevalence of 8.5 per million for the years 1980 to 1989 and 7.5 per million for 1990 to 1999.[15] Males are predominantly affected, as the majority of cases are X-linked (approximately 65% to 70% of cases).[3][4][16][17] Just under 40% of patients in the US are diagnosed before the age of 1, with the majority of patients diagnosed by age 5.[3] In the UK, median age at diagnosis is 2.7 years.[15] The condition may remain undiagnosed until the adult years; most people diagnosed in adulthood have autosomal recessive forms of the disease.[3][4]
