Emerging treatments
Breast milk
In a randomised clinical trial, the topical application of human breast milk was found to be as effective as 1% hydrocortisone cream in infants with nappy rash.[21] Further studies are required before this can be recommended as a treatment. In a subsequent RCT that enrolled newborns in a neonatal intensive care unit, barrier cream appeared to be more effective than human breast milk for the treatment of moderate to severe nappy dermatitis.[22]
