Patients who are susceptible to pressure damage but are otherwise healthy and capable of taking some responsibility for their own care, such as spinal injury patients, should be fully instructed about the need for:

  • Regular repositioning

  • Having their skin checked regularly by a third party

  • Timely intervention if early signs of damage are detected.

Patients should also be reminded of the importance of diet and skin hygiene.
