Prognosis

The 5-year survival rate is estimated to be 66%.[90] Factors that affect survival are sex, sarcoma subtype, age, site of involvement, and stage.[91]

Patients with regional or metastatic soft-tissue sarcoma have a significantly worse outlook, with 5-year survival estimated at 18% and 16%, respectively, compared with 82.6% for those with localised soft-tissue cancer.[90]

Intra-abdominal sarcomas have a poor prognosis, and the majority of patients with retroperitoneal liposarcoma will go on to die of their disease.[92]

Data in older patients are relatively scarce.[93]
