Prognosis

5-year survival

The 5-year survival rate for endometrial cancer (based on US data between 2015 and 2021) by stage at diagnosis is:[30]

  • Localised (disease confined to the uterus): 95.1%

  • Regional (disease spread regional lymph nodes): 70%

  • Distant (metastatic disease): 19.4%

  • Unknown (unstaged): 58.8%.

Most endometrial cancers are diagnosed at an early stage and successfully treated surgically. At diagnosis (based on US data between 2015 and 2021) 67% of cases are localised, 18% are regional, 11% are distant, and 4% are unstaged.[30]

Recurrence

Most recurrences (65% to 85%) occur within 3 years of treatment and are symptomatic.[9] Recurrences for early-stage disease occur at the vaginal cuff and pelvis.
