Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)

There are no specific recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding discontinuation of contact precautions after MRSA infection has been treated.

Vancomycin and gentamicin may cause nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity. Levels should be monitored throughout treatment to maintain and adjust proper dosing.

Additionally, neutropenia may be seen with prolonged treatment with vancomycin and linezolid treatment. Complete blood count should be monitored weekly when these medications are used.
