Monitoring
In the first year of life, frequent follow-up with a liver specialist is needed, focusing on growth and nutrition, educating the caregivers, and monitoring for complications. Ideally this would be monthly, but this can vary between departments and regions.
If growth is normal after 2 years, annual or biannual monitoring is sufficient. At these visits, standard blood tests should be checked: complete blood count with differential, hepatic function panel, basic metabolic panel, prothrombin time, and fat-soluble vitamin levels.
