Case history

A 25-year-old nulliparous woman presents at 37 weeks' gestation for a routine prenatal check. On examination there is a singleton baby in breech position. The mother wishes for a normal vaginal delivery.

Other presentations

Knowledge of the fetal presentation is important at the time of delivery (regardless of gestation), and prior to delivery as the pregnancy approaches term, because this is when external cephalic version becomes an option. Women may not be aware of the fetal presentation, but could report that fetal kicks are in her pelvis. The clinical diagnosis of fetal presentation is more difficult in obese women.
