Patient discussions
Advise patients to abstain from sexual intercourse until after both they and their partner complete their antibiotic treatment and symptoms resolve. If symptoms persist or recur after completing antibiotic therapy, advise patients to return for evaluation. If urethral inflammation is still present, retreatment is indicated.
All patients should be tested for other sexually transmitted infections, including HIV and syphilis. Patients should be retested 3 months after treatment.[1]
