Monitoring
Patients treated with naloxone and responding with a normal mental status may be discharged after an appropriate observation period. The length of the observation period will depend on the duration of the effect of the specific opioid taken. No other long-term monitoring is required; however, in patients with opioid use disorder, it is important to take advantage of the opportunity to discuss treatment options and the prevention and management of future overdoses.[36]
