Meta-analysis of data from over 50,000 people with substance use disorders demonstrated that self-reported craving (e.g., in response to alcohol exposure, or to stress) was associated with more than doubled odds of return to alcohol use (OR 2.47, 95% CI 2.21 to 2.75).[155]
