Monitoring

Multidisciplinary rehabilitation with appropriate specialists (e.g., physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech and language pathologist) should be performed to improve functional outcome and reduce morbidity and mortality.[9] Use of a cognitive screening tool in the postacute period is useful to identify patients with cognitive impairment and dementia.[9] Administration of depression and anxiety screening tools in the postacute period is also recommended.[9]

The main modifiable risk factor for recurrent hemorrhage is hypertension, which warrants close monitoring and treatment.

If the cause of the hemorrhage is uncertain and angiogram is negative, repeat magnetic resonance imaging within 1-4 months is recommended to allow time for the hematoma to resolve and a cavernoma to be identified.[178] A secondary cause, such as a tumor, may also be revealed.
