Patient discussions
Tuberculosis (TB)
Individuals with known or presumed TB should be advised to remain physically separated from other individuals and especially those with HIV infection.[285]
Toxoplasmosis
People living with HIV should be advised not to eat raw or under-cooked meat; they should also wash their hands after contact with raw meat and after gardening or other contact with soil; they should wash fruits and vegetables well before eating them raw. Individuals who own a cat should be advised to keep it outside and to wash their hands thoroughly after changing the litter box.[1]
Histoplasmosis
People living with HIV (with CD4 counts <200 cells/microlitre) who reside in, or visit, endemic areas should avoid activities that increase exposure to Histoplasma capsulatum, such as disturbing soil contaminated with bird or bat droppings (e.g., caving, cleaning chicken coops, or demolishing old buildings).[1]
