Primary prevention
Active mobilisation of the limb as quickly as possible after injury may help to reduce the risk of CRPS. Education about the development of pain post-injury can be helpful.
Some guidelines and practitioners recommend or utilise vitamin C as preventive therapy or at the time of onset of an inciting event that may result in CRPS (such as elective surgery). Data, primarily based on three studies, their meta-analyses, and a more recent systematic review gave mixed results. Given the low risk of taking vitamin C, providers may recommend taking vitamin C for up to 6-8 weeks to help prevent CRPS.[34][35]
