Mortality

Shock has a high mortality but this is dependent on cause. Septic shock has case-fatality rates of 40% to 50%, reaching up to 80%.[203] Cardiogenic shock is the leading cause of in-hospital death in patients with acute myocardial infarction.[90] Hospital mortality of cardiogenic shock reaches around 60%.[9][10][204] Of these deaths, 70% to 80% occur in the first 30 to 60 days after onset of cardiogenic shock.[14] One randomised controlled trial showed coronary angiography and revascularisation of the infarct related artery reduced 30-day mortality from 51.6% to 43.3%.[90][205]
