Summary
Definition
MM is a malignant neoplasm of plasma cells. Myeloma cells proliferate and accumulate in the bone marrow and secrete abnormal (monoclonal) immunoglobulins or immunoglobulin fragments (known as a paraprotein or M-protein). This can result in complications such as hypercalcaemia, osteolytic bone disease, renal failure, anaemia, and infection.[1][2][Figure caption and citation for the preceding image starts]: A: serum protein electrophoresis demonstrating a monoclonal immunoglobulin.
