Monitoring
Patients with a gastric ulcer may have an endoscopy 8 weeks after treatment is started to check ulcer healing and to rule out gastric cancer (because a small number of gastric cancers may present as gastric ulcers). Patients with uncomplicated duodenal ulcers do not need follow-up endoscopy.
Patients with documented Helicobacter pylori infection should be evaluated for eradication at least 1 month after the completion of antimicrobial therapy.[42][56] Ideally, the patient should stop proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy for 2 weeks prior to eradication testing.[42]
