Prognosis
For patients with primary ichthyoses, the severity can vary widely. Many patients may only require topical therapy and do well, while the minority of more severe cases may require systemic therapy. For patients with acquired ichthyosis related to a systemic disorder such as lymphoma, diabetes mellitus, or systemic lupus erythematosus, the skin is not the primary concern and their overall prognosis is variable.
