Patients with herpetic keratitis should be advised that the disease can become recurrent and that they need to be seen by an ophthalmologist if they experience a decrease in vision or eye pain, redness, or discharge.

Contact lens wearers should:[22]

  • avoid wearing contact lenses until the keratitis is completely healed

  • be made aware of the importance of adhering to good contact lens hygiene techniques.
