When acutely presenting with clinically significant hypoglycemia, glucose levels may be low enough to cause central nervous system manifestations such as seizures. The seizures should resolve with correction of glucose levels and not recur so long as hypoglycemia is avoided.

At the extreme spectrum of hypoglycemic complications is coma due to lack of glucose availability to the brain. The coma should resolve with correction of glucose levels and not recur so long as extreme hypoglycemia is avoided. Permanent neurologic sequelae are possible: for example, focal neurologic deficits, memory loss.
