Criteria

American Society of Reproductive Medicine[80][105]

Couples in which the woman is ages <35 years should be evaluated after 1 year of inability to conceive unless they have a clear reason for being sterile (i.e., ovarian failure), in which case earlier intervention is indicated. Couples in which the woman is aged 35 years or older should consider evaluation after 6 months of failure to conceive. Diagnostic testing should begin upon presentation in women with a significant medical, sexual or reproductive history, physical findings suggestive of possible impaired fertility, or advanced age.

UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence[1]

A woman who has not conceived after 1 year of unprotected sexual intercourse, in the absence of any known cause of infertility, should be offered further investigation along with her partner. An earlier specialist consultation is appropriate if the woman is aged 36 years or over and/or there is a known clinical cause of infertility or a history of predisposing factors.
