Epidemiology

Uveitis may affect individuals of any age or sex.[3] In the US, population-based and registry studies suggest uveitis incidence of 24.9 to 112.84 per 100,000 person-years.[4][5][6][7] Estimated prevalence in the US is 115.3 to 540 per 100,000.[5][8]

Mean age at diagnosis in the US is 53 years.[8][9] Uveitis most commonly affects those between age 20 and 60 years.[10][11]

Anterior uveitis is the most common form, accounting for at least half of uveitis cases in Western countries in one review.[12] Posterior uveitis is less common, followed by intermediate uveitis.[11][12]

Infectious uveitis is common (30% to 60% of cases) in developing countries.[13] Non-infectious uveitis is more common in developed countries.[12]
