Epidemiology
Pilonidal disease is common, with an estimated prevalence of 26 cases per 100,000 population in the US. The condition affects men more often than women; 80% of patients are male.[1]
The average age of presentation is 21 years for males and 19 years for females.[2]
Approximately 55% of patients with pilonidal disease present with symptoms and 45% are asymptomatic.[3]
