Strict adherence to contraception is advised after completion of treatment.[3][34][51] Most methods of contraception, including oral contraceptives, can be safely used after treatment for GTD and can be started immediately after uterine evacuation.[52][53] However, intrauterine devices (medicated or not) are contraindicated in women with active, invasive tumors or persistently elevated hCG levels because of the risk of uterine perforation.[51]
