Prognosis

Hypopituitarism has been associated with 1.8-fold higher mortality compared with an age- and sex-matched population.[8] Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular death rates are higher in patients with hypopituitarism compared with the general population.[7] Growth hormone deficiency is potentially responsible for increased cardiovascular mortality.[10][89][91] However, it is likely that there is a multi-factorial aetiology to excess mortality in these patients.[92]

Age at diagnosis, female sex, and craniopharyngiomas were all significant independent risk factors for excess mortality in one study.[93]
